Although the final product is important for Map Monday, sometimes the base map alternate cartographers use is just as worthy for recognition. For example, take this
editable map of the Star Wars galaxy by Xanthoc:
Based on a map by rvbomally (author of "
Ad Astra Per Aspera" and previously featured on
Map Monday), this map provides a starting point for alternate historians who wish to ask a what if question in the
Star Wars universe, such as
what if Luke Skywalker had failed to destroy the first Death Star? This map is a strong reminder that alternate histories don't just have to be limited to our own histories. Fictional histories from pop-culture are also fair game and can be a lot of fun to create.
