This story is *not* about America; America is merely the setting. This story is about the rise of fascism in 1930s Germany, and about how insidiously it happened in an otherwise democratic nation. The novel is chilling, especially in the context of demagogue politicians in 2016 AmericaAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5080248961176338496.post-49459994630643233532011-08-12T09:32:00.549-05:002011-08-12T09:32:00.549-05:00Good point, but anyone who would want to be a dict...Good point, but anyone who would want to be a dictator would just use the ideology as a means to an end.

Thanks for following the blog!Mitrohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12415640801753049329noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5080248961176338496.post-33637747676100569722011-08-11T19:52:12.088-05:002011-08-11T19:52:12.088-05:00There's also the fact that if anything, Huey L...There's also the fact that if anything, Huey Long would be a socialist (though not allied with the Soviet Union) dictator, if anything. He didn't really go with the whole fascist spiel; he used the poor of all races to rise to power in Louisiana, and focused at smashing the power of the rich, moneyed aristocrats(since this is the US more modern aristocrats, but still), and corporate influence, rather than co-opting it like fascism does. Still, good review; I won't be checking out that book, then.Mormon Mobsterhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06244893558879102539noreply@blogger.com
