Some of the prairie provinces of Canada undergo a different formative period and the changes to inner borders is interesting. Furthermore, Canada pretty much becomes a republic after the early 1940s. And though the UK ceases to exist in this timeline, the royal family actually gets exiled to South Africa, not Canada. (The fall of the British Empire and the exile of the royals is what forces the TL's Canada to drop dominion status altogether and become a republic.)

And other than Canada, it's an amazing, amusing, often even hilarious timeline, with great attention to historical details.Potulný rytier zemplínskyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13922722429784879717noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5080248961176338496.post-3273967127957102352013-05-31T13:27:01.531-05:002013-05-31T13:27:01.531-05:00Has anyone read this timeline? I wonder how something that is already happening (The Great Lakes Compact, which are the Canadian provinces and the American states that border the Lakes agreeing to mutually protect the Lakes) leads to an alternative future where they form the nucleus of a new nation in a fresh-water deprived future world.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5080248961176338496.post-56713730489352279382012-07-01T18:03:18.139-05:002012-07-01T18:03:18.139-05:00With a little mind flexing, Canada could play a mu...With a little mind flexing, Canada could play a much more interesting role in alternate history than it does, and I'm not just saying that because I'm Canadian! If the Cold War became a Hot War, Canada might have become the new outpost of civilization in a blasted North America. What kind of society would have developed? What kind of political entity? However, I think that, even if this alternate Canada was successful, it wouldn't be able to grow to the superpower that is America today: geography, population and resources play as large a role as politics most times. I've written a few steampunk/AH novels, and...i'm guilty of it as well! Even though my stories are set in Canada 'technnically' (geographically) - and specifically Vancouver (where I'm from) - in my AH history world, all of N. America is melded together into one big nation - there's no separate US and Canada - just the whole thing broken down into directional 'sections' (i.e. North West, North Central, North East etc)... though Vancouver exists, and so do other geographical areas (i.e. the prairies and the Rockies) but the whole thing is an Empire (and ruled by an Emperor).Caitlin McCollnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5080248961176338496.post-40156979011277321922012-06-28T12:42:50.630-05:002012-06-28T12:42:50.630-05:00O Cascadia.
